Travel in Birmingham

Birmingham is well connected, making travel in and around nice and easy.

Train

Trains in the city centre either go from New Street or Moor Street station. The stations you are most likely to use otherwise are:

  • Five Ways for places like La Pop or Broad Street clubs and bars
  • Selly Oak for Ariel Scout Hut
  • University for visiting campus
  • Tile Hill for site

Bus

We are really well served by our buses and they're reasonably priced. They might be more convenient than a train! All our buses are run by National Express and take contactless payment.

If using contactless a single is £2.40 then if you make another journey it goes up to £4 and you can make as many subsequent journeys as you like that day for no extra cost. Just be sure to use the same card each time. To use the buses simply hop on, put your contactless card on the reader (or your phone if it does contactless payments) and find a seat on the bus, no need to talk to the driver if you don't want to!

If using the 61, 63, 23, 24, X20, X21 or X22 buses it may be cheaper to get a 'Hop' ticket. If you have a university or NHS ID card you can get a single fare for £1 in cash by showing your ID card to the driver, putting your £1 into the cash slot and grabbing the paper ticket printed.

The main busses announce the stops as you go to make it easier to know when to get off. The simplest way to see what buses you might want and when they are arriving is using google maps.

Cycles or Scooters

We recently got our own version of 'Boris Bikes' and we have Voi scooters around Birmingham that can be rented with apps. So if you fancy a fun self-guided tour of Birmingham hit our brand new cycle paths and go for a ride!
