SSAGO does Iceland

From the 12th to 17th July 2022, Scouts from around the world join the Camp White Nights and experience an Icelandic adventure at the Ulfljótsvatn Scout Centre

Taking place in south Iceland at Úlfljótsvatn Scout Center, where the World Scout Moot took place in 2017, we are looking forward to that special feeling of international scouting returning once again.  

For this event we have put together a unique program package with a range of exciting activities, such as our outdoor climbing course, archery, a day trip to the famous Golden Circle, white water rafting and much more.

Who is the event for?

The event is a gathering of scouts and guides from across the world, ranging from 10 years of age and up. Participants are welcome to come with their scout groups or as individuals.

Day Expeditions and Trips

Golden Circle

One of the most popular sights in Iceland, this trio of breathtaking natural phenomenons is a day tour not to be missed. This day tour takes you to three amazing Icelandic attractions. You will leave from Úlfljótsvatn and visit the Þingvellir National Park, Gullfoss Falls and The Great Geysir. Þingvellir National Park – A historic site that is home to the Icelandic parliament from the 10th to 18th centuries, ancient ruins and a visible split between two tectonic plates. Gulfoss Falls – Gulfoss is a huge waterfall and nature reserve. The Great Geysir – A hot spring in a geothermal area and the home of an active geysir that can reach heights of fifteen to twenty meters every five to ten minutes.

Sólheimajokull Glacier Walk

An experience like no other, travel across a vast glacier while learning new skills, challenging yourself and enjoying the breathtaking scenery. In this full day activity, you will travel from Úlfljótsvatn to Sólheimajokull (coach transfer included) where an Icelandic glacier guide will take you on to the glacier for a few hours teaching you about how glaciers are formed, how to safely travel on a glacier and much more. On the way back you will stop at famous waterfalls Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss. All specialised equipment is included in the cost.

Reykjavík Tour

Take a day trip the northernmost capital city in the world and explore everything it has to offer. Reykjavik is the capital and largest city of Iceland. Originally founded by viking settlers in the 9th century, it stands today as a city full of rich culture, museums, beautiful architecture and more. This day tour will take you by bus from Úlfljótsvatn to the city, leaving you with a guide to explore and learn before returning to Úlfljótsvatn.

White Water Rafting

Brace the rapids in an explosive rafting experience that has something for everyone! Starting at Drumbo River Base you will spend around 1.5 hours rafting 7km down the Hvitá river that flows from Langjökul glacier and into the famous waterfall Gulfoss. Each raft holds 8 to 10 people and up to 100 people can be on the river at once. After the rafting trip, hot showers, a sauna and hot tubs are available for use and food is also available from the rafting base restaurant. Food is available for purchase from the rafting base for an extra cost.

How much does it cost?

The cost of attending the camp itself, alongside insurance and a contingent necker is £400

Some of the day expeditions and experiences are at an additional cost.

In addition, SSAGO is offering to organise group transport for those who would like to travel together and not have to worry about sorting travel, which comes at a cost of £170.
