SSAGO Goes To Pilning

What is it?

SSROB - the SSAGO Strategic Rail Operations Branch - presents it's first event in the South-West: a trip to Pilning station.

Pilning is a unique station in Britain; despite having two tracks, passengers are only able to access one platform, meaning only eastbound trains can call there.

GWR have reduced the service at Pilning to just two trains a week - both on Saturdays, at 08:33 and 15:32 respectively.

Naturally therefore, daily passenger numbers at Pilning are very low... but not when SSAGO is there!

The Details

The event will be take place on Saturday 15/04/2023, starting and ending at Bristol Temple Meads.

There's no booking fee for the event, but you'll need to pay for your own rail tickets. The tickets for the orgnaised journeys will be less than £7, even without a Railcard.

Naturally, there's a problem with visiting a station with trains in only one direction, but there's a solution: walking! We will get the train out to Severn Beach, enjoy views of the Prince Of Wales bridge before walking 1 hour over beautiful* Avon countryside to reach Pilning, before hailing the 15:33 back to Bristol.

If you're coming from afar and wish to spend one or both nights in Bristol, please get in contact, since floor space may be available.

Please note that due to the nature of the station, the event will involve a moderate walk between the two stations.

*countryside may feature two motorways
